A comprehensive species directory mapping Kashmir's terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity, including mammals, birds, fish, and flora. Integrating detailed conservation status, habitat associations, elevational ranges, and critical intelligence for threatened ecosystems and protected zones.

Taxonomic Scope: Mammals, Avian Fauna, Ichthyology, and Vascular / Medicinal Flora.
Access specialized intelligence for each taxonomic group with habitat associations, conservation status, and distribution data
Ecosystem-level biodiversity patterns
Temperate, coniferous, and oak forests supporting Kashmir's terrestrial wildlife including Hangul, Markhor, bears, and pheasants.
Lakes, marshes, and Ramsar wetlands supporting migratory waterbirds, aquatic species, and wetland-dependent flora.
High-altitude meadows, cryosphere, and alpine ecosystems supporting specialized flora and fauna adapted to extreme conditions.
Freshwater ecosystems including Jhelum, Indus tributaries, and cold-water streams supporting aquatic biodiversity.
Valley meadows (margs), pasture lands, and grassland ecosystems supporting ungulates, birds, and wildflower diversity.

Iconic and conservation-significant species representing Kashmir's biodiversity heritage
Ficedula subrubra
Strict breeding endemic flycatcher of Kashmir Valley deciduous and mixed forests. Males sport rich rufous-orange underparts bordered by black, nesting in tree cavities in Dachigam and Overa-Aru.
Catreus wallichii
A vulnerable long-tailed crest pheasant specializing in rugged, steep grassy ravines and scrubby precipices of the Pir Panjal and lower Chenab basin.
Schizothorax niger
Endemic lacustrine snow trout restricted to the Kashmir Valley lakes (Dal, Wular, Manasbal, Anchar). Characterized by fine scales, dark olive-bronze back, and blunt snout. Severely threatened by eutrophication, siltation, and direct competition with introduced common carp.
Aconitum heterophyllum
Aconitum heterophyllum (Patis / Atis) is an alpine jewel flowering in subalpine meadows between 2,500m and 4,000m. Highly celebrated as 'the child’s physician' (Shishu Bhaishajya) in traditional medicine, its non-toxic bitter tubers are the foremost remedy for malarial and intermittent fevers.
